Nas's best lyrical hip hop records of all time are:
1. “My Downfall” – Notorious B.I.G., 1997
The lyrics are about how he’s acing the shadows of death, despite all of his success, and he’s giving it to you in a way that makes it seem so real.
2. “If My Homie Calls” – 2pac, 1991
He’s just saying to his boys that he’s going to be a friend no matter how big he gets.
3. “Road To The Riches” – Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo, 1989
The way we’re rhyming now? He was already doing it then .
4. “A Bird In The Hand” – Ice Cube, 1991
5. “Paid In Full” – Eric B. & Rakim, 1987
6. “I’m Single” – Lil Wayne, 2010
I’m recently divorced, so I feel what he’s saying.
7. “Tears of Joy” – Rick Ross, 2010
Ross is at the pulpit here.
8 “The Moment I Feared” – Slick Rick, 1988
It’s cinematic. He’s at a hip-hop show and ices this girl who played him, then he’s in prison getting violated by some dude. This was unheard of.
9. “Empire State of Mind” – Jay-Z, 2009
This song is huge. It sounds like Broadway. It’s New York’s modern anthem.
10. “Queen Bitch” – Lil’ Kim, 1996
At the time, females rappers didn’t appeal to the street, but Kim came with the vulgarity, sexuality and gangster shit.
In the words of Ed Lover, Coooooo-mon-son. This list is ridiculous. Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Lil Kim.. and out of all of Jay's songs you choose "Empire State of Mind?' How do you not have artists: Talib Kweli, Eminem, Jedi Mind Tricks, GZA, The Roots, Lupe Fiasco, Andre 3000, Common, Black Thought, just to name a few. I was troubled by this list and as a Nas fan this was extremely disappointing to read. If you know hip hop then you might feel the same.

What...the...fuck?
Can't knock his choices... that's how he feels... doesn't mean he doesn't like other classic hip hop artists that aren't listed. This is just what he chose for most LYRICAL... maybe his answers would be different for most CREATIVE... or most COMPLEX word play...lyrical means writing patterns... the way words are used... lyrics. He like the words/messages in these songs... I feel you Nas. Lol
Disturbing.
This is confusing. Nas is one of the best to ever do it. But this is just garbage.
You chose Jedi Mind Tricks as a counterexample?
????
Even though I don't agree with his choices I'm not gonna knock his choices because they are his and who are we to say how he feels.
NAS HAS THE RIGHT TO SAY WHAT EVER HE WANTS... just wish he kept his mouth shut 0.o
All of you shut up, Nas is a legend.
No one's hating on Nas.
We all appreciate good Hip Hop and know how much of a legend he is.
His choices are just a little surprising that is all

I dont agree with the Rick Ross, lil wayne....but its his opinion and i respect nas!!!
smh smdh mann super shocked by this list but not really heated i mean hip hop is one of the most vast genre's of music it has something for everyone like i think all rappers and all types of rap have their place like even souja boii and flcoka lol..although i prefer more meaningful intellectual type music which is why i listen to rappers like lupe(g.o.a.t) asher roth, diggy, jaay electornica, atmosphere, fashawn, and suprisingly enuff the guy who made tht shocking list but u cnt knock someone for their opinions and what they like different people relate to different things
this nigga Nas has got to be ill -@HeNeverLies
I keep on losing respect for him...
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!? I cant believe this shit... da fuck? Lil Wayne is garbage. i cant believe hes on this list im so mad!
I don't think Nas titled the article himself,
I think that's just Rolling Stone being out of touch again...
These are just songs he's feeling right now, a playlist, hence him picking songs, and not just listing names...
Rolling Stone is just stupid.
^^^ I'm sure this guy is correct
