Lupe Fiasco Speaks On Lasers: "I became more simple. Still complex, but..."

Lupe Fiasco sat down with Baltimore Sun earlier today where he talked about the sound of the highly anticipated album Lasers, Atlantic Records, being underrated as an artist and more. Here's an excerpt:

On the sound of Lasers:
“Musically, I’m more comfortable bending genres. … The album feels more popular, if that makes sense. The message is a little more wider. More people will be able to get it and it’s more clear. I became more simple. Still complex, but I became adept at communicating better. … There’s a lot of rock influence on the record. A lot of trip-hop, downbeat stuff. Some of it doesn’t even sound like a hip-hop record.”

On if he feels underrated as an artist:

“Commercially, yes. But I don’t do commercial music so I would be a fool to think think I’d get commercial acceptance. Culturally, I probably have more kudos than the next guy. Jay-Z has called me the greatest writer of our time. … I’m good. I’m happy.”
